Annual Testing

Backflow Preventers are required to be tested on an annual basis. This test is required pursuant to the New York State Cross Connection Control Program 5-1.31(a)(3). Testing of a backflow device must be performed by a state certified tester.

Backflow device repairs require shutting off the water.  We make repairs off hours and weekends if needed.  Even though the EPA does not mention specifically that replacement/repair parts need to be lead-free it's important to check requirements.

Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974

Your water company is required by Part 5 of the New York State Sanitary Code to protect the distribution system by requiring customers with potential cross connections to install a backflow prevention device.  Testing and maintenance of a backflow device must be performed by a state certified tester.

Under the provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974, the Federal Government has established, through the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), national standards of safe drinking water. The states are responsible for the enforce- ment of these standards as well as the supervision of public water supply systems and the sources of drinking water.
